Our Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Experience
We were lucky enough to learn SEO, in its infancy, in the mid 90's. While working with a healthcare marketing firm, and building a new website for a large healthcare software company, we had the opportunity to work very closely with one of the very first SEO specialist. He had provided SEO services to companies such as Time Warner Cable, Road Runner ISP, CDW, Hostess Cakes, Breathe Right Nasal Strips, Farmland Foods, Ruby Tuesday, Harry and David and Jackson & Perkins. During this process we learned how to ethically SEO websites.
Search Engine Optimization Pitfalls & Warnings
Trying to SEO your existing website. One of the most important aspects of SEO is how the website is built. Search engine optimization needs to be done, prior to, and during the building process. If your website is not built with SEO in mind, it will be much harder to get it ranked. If the keywords or terms you are trying to target are highly sought after, you may have to redesign your whole website. The lesson here is if you want your website to rank well, you need a SEO specialist working directly with your web designer during the entire design process, or a web designer who is also a SEO specialist.
Guaranteed Result. NOBODY can guarantee organic search engine rankings and BEWARE of any company or SEO "specialist" who says they can. THIS IS A MAJOR RED FLAG!!!
Unethical SEO techniques. There are ethical and unethical techniques that can effect your search engine ranking, and if you get caught using unethical techniques you stand the risk of getting your website banned from search engines all together. Just a couple of examples of unethical techniques are: paying for links and using the same color text with the same color background. We actually ran across a so called "SEO specialist" recommending this to one of our clients just recently. This technique has been banned for years and is sure to get you penalized or dropped.
