Here are a list of important web design tips for web designers and anyone interested in building a quality website.

• make sure you purchase your own domain name/URL (the name of your website), DO NOT have the web design company or the web designer do it, because they then control it. Click here to learn how to purchase a website domain name/URL.
• pre-design planning, quality content (content is king), and links from topic related websites to your website are what really counts when it comes to search engine optimization. Click here to learn more about search engine optimization.
• make sure your copy, especially headers, is actual HTML text and not images
• try not to use frames in your website
• only use flash if it is necessary
• do not re-size images in html or in a web editing software (do it in a photo editing program like Photoshop)
• do not use a percentage value in the height or width of an image
• make sure images are 72 D.P.I. (dots per inch) in RGB (not CMYK) and saved as a gif, jpeg/jpg or png
• try to save logos or image based text as gifs or pngs and photos as jpgs to keep the file size down
• use your header tags
• if you use javascript navigation be sure to have a non-javascript text based sitemap and footer navigation that search engine spiders can easily find
• remember that many people are still viewing websites at 800 x 600 pixels
• have a relevant title in your title tag
• name your images using the image alt tag
• make sure you check your website on different computers using multiple web browsers
